Meet the first winners of ESWIs Diversity Equity and Inclusion Award
Tsiry Hasina Randriambolamanantsoa
Receiving the prize of ESWI's first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award was a great encouragement for me and all the scientists in low- and middle-income countries to always present their research work even in high-level conferences such as the ESWI conference. We have a lot of data to explore, let's develop our relationship, our research to save lives. It’s also an opportunity for me to discuss with experts and an occasion to interact with people conducting the same project. Thank you for promoting our participation and increasing the visibility of our research in Madagascar. So, thank you so much!

Being a novice doctor, this award serves as a source of motivation for me to improve my performance and advance my career further.
Mamadou Malado Jallow
I’m deeply honoured, humbled and grateful to be a recipient of the #ESWI2023 first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award, supported by Sanofi. Receiving this award in my early career is a great motivation for me and I want to express my gratefulness to the respiratory virus team at the Pasteur Institute in Dakar under the leadership of Dr. Ndongo Dia for giving me the opportunity to expand our studies and contribute to the visibility of my lab.
Mamadou Malado Jallow graduated from the Senegalese High School in Banjul (The Gambia) in 2012. Subsequently, I was admitted at the University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (Senegal) with a cooperation scholarship to pursue a degree in Biology. In 2015, I was selected to pursue a Master degree in Parasitology after achieving my BSc with a distinction. As part of my thesis, I joined the Pasteur Institute in Dakar in July 2017 and contributed in several research projects. My research interest is to investigate the epidemiology and the genetic characteristics of Influenza A viruses at the human/animal interface as well as the risk assessment of Avian Influenza Virus (AIV) emergence and transmission to Human.
Nadia Ali Rimi
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the ESWI conference organizers, Sanofi and the esteemed jury for this extraordinary honor. It is a privilege to be part of a community that values not only scientific excellence but also the principles of equity and inclusion. In a world facing the challenges of emerging respiratory viruses, it is crucial that our collective efforts reflect the richness of diverse perspectives and experiences.
Nishi Kumari
In the present era, as economies worldwide move towards the idea that "The world is one family" (known as "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"), I find great satisfaction in being a part of the research scholar community. Throughout human history, scientists have played a vital role in advancing our civilization.
In this decade, during which the entire world has successfully battled the COVID-19 pandemic, I take pride in my affiliation with Prof Raghavan Varadarajan's lab at the esteemed Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore. Here, we are diligently working to develop vaccines to combat Influenza and COVID-19. This effort underscores our commitment to global well-being as we contribute to building a healthier and more interconnected world.
I feel immensely honoured and proud to receive the "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award". I cannot thank the ESWI Board Members enough for giving me this opportunity to present my work on a global platform. This recognition further motivates me to continue my dedication to research and to contribute meaningfully to our collective pursuit of excellence in the development of future vaccines against acute respiratory viruses.
